A new initiative is the maritime education of Philadelphia’s disadvantaged youth. Gazela and her volunteer crew have also taken part in the filming of Interview with the Vampire, the documentary The Irish in America, and The Widow of St. Pierre.
Gazela is maintained and sailed by a very active and knowledgeable volunteer group participating in maintenance and sail training activities throughout the year. After 25 hours of work on the vessel, a volunteer is eligible for a crew position on the next available voyage.
